  • TSM Book Club Book #28: Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams
Started: July 7th Finished: July 11th TSM Rating: 5/5 This was such a lovely follow-up to When in Rome. Sweet Annie and Broody Will have such endearing chemistry right from the start that it was hard to put this book down. Basic backgrounds, Annie is the youngest sister of Noah Walker, our hero from When […]
  • TSM Book Club Book #27: Will They Or Won’t They by Ava Wilder
Started: July 1st Finished: July 6th TSM Rating: 5/5 This was one of my most anticipated books of the year and I wasn’t disappointed. I’m going to be honest, I loved Shane instantly, but it took awhile for Lilah to grow on me. She was such a frustrating character to root for. And this is […]
  • TSM Book Club Book #30: How To Talk To A Widower by Jonathan Tropper
Started: July 24thFinished: July 31stTSM Rating: 4/5 This book was definitely different from the romance I’ve been reading lately. Don’t get me wrong, there is lots of love in this book, but not romance, which was why I picked it. Just for something a little different. Doug is in mourning. He’s 29 years old and […]
  • TSM Book Club Book #29: The Duchess Effect by Tracey Livesay
Started: July 11thFinished: July 22ndTSM Rating: 4/5 Another highly anticipated read for me. While I liked it, I was so frustrated with Dani in this book. I understood her motivations, but I wanted her to make different choices. Prince Jameson wins by being charming, kind, and sexy. The Duchess Effect is the sequel to American […]
  • Cranky-man Syndrome
Sometime last year, J gave up napping. It happens once kids turn two. They decide that napping is for the birds and stop doing it. The fools! As any parent knows, this often leads to late-afternoon crankiness. Unfortunately for me, J’s late-afternoon crankiness typically manifests in the middle of dinner and lasts until he falls […]

Dot’s Eagles contemplate flying the Pop Warner nest
Coach: Adult Attacked Player to Set Off Disney Brawl

It has been a hectic week for the Dorchester Pop Warner Eagles organization. What was supposed to be a time of fun and – potentially – glory at the Pop Warner National Championship tournament in Florida turned into a nightmare after members of Dorchester’s midget squad were involved in a brawl at a Disney World hotel with the arrival team from Rhode Island. The fight resulted in a tough disciplinary crackdown by the national Pop Warner board, which has barred all levels of the Dorchester league from participating in post-season competition for the next three years. The midget team’s coach, Tony Hurston, has also been suspended for a year.

He’s only four, but Alexander has a big need

For a four-year-old, Alexander Phan is extremely intelligent. When he isn’t playing with his 19-month-old sister, Kayla, or his six-year-old brother Peter, he is sitting at the wooden table by the door of his family’s home, writing.

Mattapan leaders plan to seek Main Streets designation

In a time of looming economic gloominess, a number of Mattapan business owners are banding together in hopes of winning a city-designated Main Streets district in the new year. Advocates for the idea have set up a working committee to lobby for the city’s support for a Mattapan designation. The group met last Tuesday to discuss the pros and cons.

Lovers and Friends: Is a Friends with Benefits Relationship Really Worth the Benefits

Friends with benefits is a concept so popular that there have been two movies and a TV show made about it. An agreement between two consenting adults to enter into a physical relationship, friends with benefits has replaced “going steady.” It’s about the benefits of being in a relationship without any of the strings.

The Good Ones Take Social Networking to the Next Level

Walking into Poggenpohl on Tuesday night it was hard not to notice the soft purple and blue lights highlighting every corner of the room. Women from all walks of life, dressed in pink, pearls and Prada gathered to mingle, enjoy great wine and even better food. This gathering was brought to them by The Good Ones, a social networking company that takes networking to the next level.

Our 20s Are One Long Survival of the Fittest Race

When I first sat down to write this post, it came from a place of utter frustration. During this ongoing job search of and for a few friends of mine, we’ve reached a point of desperation. Now that I’ve screamed a little, cried a little, sulked and stewed a little – and wrote a terrible rough draft – I can articulate this properly. Life in our twenties, post conveyor belt has turned into a survival of the fittest race…

From Chile to Boston Steppin’ Cerca Feels the Love and Spreads La Musica Negra

Standing in the rain on Friday night, the men of Steppin’ Cerca – Nasty Nate, Mikele, and DJ Doblebeat – were flying on a natural high. A two-hour set at the Middle East Upstairs in front of family, friends and fans met along the way capped off a month-long tour that took the boys from Chile around the Northeast with the Van Buren Boys.

We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.
